nairobi before dawn

our last night in nairobi passed in a flash. we headed to the airport before sunrise. as i sat in the van, scenes from the past two weeks played over and over again in my mind... memories that will stay with me forever.

the swing of the purple cross hanging from the rearview mirror in bonnie's van
angie's tears of joy at the maai mahiu idp camp
vince holding in his lap a little girl whose parents had passed away from hiv/aids
a little darling at the idp camp running up to me unsuspectingly and hugging my knees as i was taking a photograph
standing behind john as he spoke to the massive assembly of children at the kapkatet primary school
vince showing me a picture of a canadian house that fourteen year old kennedy drew especially for him
playing b.s. (or flowers) with bonnie, michael, and charles
ambrose's warm smiles as he brought us our delicious meals
curious children at the primary school asking if my ponytail was real and commenting that it looked like a horse
vince swinging little ones around and around by their arms at the idp camp
the excited shrieks from two young girls when they saw my smiling chinese face in the window as our van drove by
the delightfully infectious giggle of the little girl vince would chase around on the grass at our build site
the face of beautiful fourteen year old fancy as i waved goodbye
